Fur – Garments and Pelts

Skyscraper insurance offers written fur appraisals for insurance purposes, estate purposes or the current market value of your fur.It is often necessary for estates to require a written evaluation of a fur. Skyscraper insurance will work with you to provide you with the proper valuation of an inherited fur.

To insure your fur coat properly, be sure to have it listed as a separate rider on your homeowner’s insurance policy. In order to do this you will need a written appraisal from a professional furrier. We are delighted to provide this for you at no charge. We will need to physically have your fur to do this. We will provide you with the original appraisal and upon request send a copy to your insurance agent.

Be certain that you have adequate insurance with up-to-date appraisals on each fur garment that you own. Keep in mind that most homeowner’s policies will not adequately cover your garments unless there is a specific rider adding them to the basic policy.  Also be sure to get information on applicable deductibles and depreciation that would apply in the event of a loss.

If you are wanting to sell your used fur coat, what you need to be interested in is the actual cash value of the garment; this is usually significantly less than the insurance appraised value. Any item is only truly “worth” what someone is willing to pay for it. The price we pay for a fur garment or the listing price of a consigned garment is objectively determined by factors such as the age of the fur, its condition including the skins, style, size, length and marketability.
